Our New Babysitter Seemed Perfect Until My Daughter Whispered Her Chilling Secret to Me
When my husband and I found a new babysitter, she seemed like the perfect fit. Olivia was young, energetic, and had glowing recommendations from several families in our neighborhood. With our busy schedules, having someone reliable to watch over our six-year-old daughter, Lily, was a relief.
From the very first day, Olivia impressed us. She arrived on time, played games with Lily, and even helped with her bedtime routine. But after just a few nights, something changed.
One evening, as I was tucking Lily into bed, she suddenly gripped my wrist, her little hands trembling.
“Mommy,” she whispered, her eyes wide with fear. “Olivia talks to someone when you’re not home.”
I frowned. “What do you mean, sweetheart?”
Lily hesitated, then leaned in closer. “She talks to a man. But… but no one’s there.”
A chill ran down my spine. “Are you sure?”
Lily nodded vigorously. “She goes to the big mirror in the hallway and whispers to him. I heard her say, ‘Not yet. Soon.’”
I tried to keep my expression calm, but my heart pounded. Was she imagining things? Or was Olivia on the phone with someone while watching Lily? Either way, I needed to find out.
The next evening, my husband and I left for dinner, but instead of going far, we parked a few houses down and waited. An hour later, I quietly let myself back in through the back door. The house was silent, except for the faint murmur of Olivia’s voice.
Creeping toward the hallway, I peeked around the corner—and my blood ran cold.
Olivia stood in front of the large hallway mirror, her reflection barely visible in the dim light. She wasn’t holding a phone. She was speaking softly, as if in conversation with someone I couldn’t see.
“I told you, not yet,” she whispered, her voice eerily calm. “They’re not ready.”
Then, as if sensing my presence, she suddenly turned around, her eyes locking onto mine.
For a moment, neither of us moved. Then Olivia smiled—a slow, unsettling smile.
“You weren’t supposed to hear that,” she said.
I grabbed Lily and ran.
My husband called the police, and we later found out Olivia had no real references—the glowing recommendations were faked. Even more disturbing, the previous family she worked for had moved away suddenly, refusing to speak about why.
To this day, I don’t know who—or what—Olivia was talking to in that mirror. And I don’t want to find out.
